Focus on God
Focus on Family
An emphasis for FUMC Ozark for
2004-2005
Why have a focus? To intensify our efforts
through a Christian emphasis that will be a medium for our mission in
our local and worldwide community to win disciples for Jesus Christ.
Why this focus? The family is the basic unit in
our society. Weaknesses in the family unit are the source of problems in
society. By strengthening the family unit, through emphasizing our focus
on God, we will strengthen our society and help to correct its problems.
Influencing parents to be Godly role models for their children and
influencing children and youth to be Godly role models for their parents
and their siblings will help us to fulfill our purpose of becoming more
like Christ. Also, the term family is all inclusive. It begins with the
traditional family and extends to the family of Christ in our church, to
the family of fellow citizens in Ozark and, ultimately, to the family of
humanity around the world.
Scriptural basis:
1 Timothy 5:8. Anyone who
fails to provide for his family has denied the faith and is worse than
an unbeliever.
Plan: The Council on Ministries shall be the
central organizing body. We will implement this theme throughout the
church’s activities by
1. Advertising the theme on our marquee, in our
bulletin, on our bulletin boards, on our website, in our radio and
newspaper advertising and on TV.
2. Adopting the logo to advertise the theme.

The logo is symbolic. The cross is the
most common symbol of Christianity. The circle is one of
the oldest symbols of heaven, God’s protection for us all, and is
universal to many people and religions. The circle also represents the
family circle, unity and inclusiveness. The triangle represents
the Trinity and is the most stable shape. The figures represent
the family group, which can be the traditional family, the church
family, the world family, etc. A family can be made up of any number of
individuals who join together in their faith. They are shown different
sizes to represent different ages. They are shown as the same shapes to
represent the inner person rather than the outward appearance.
3. Incorporating the theme into our preaching,
teaching, ministry and mission work.
4. Taking the theme into the community through our
positions as members and leaders of community organizations.
5. Using the emphasis as a means for witnessing.
